D’Amore’s Famous Pizza
Several locations in Los Angeles area
www.damoresfamouspizza.com

The skinny: Known for its signature thin-crust pizzas made with cornmeal dough, olive oil and "special" water shipped in from Massachusetts. Cheese is a blend of low-fat provolone and non-fat mozarella.  One slice said to be only 166 calories.

Z Pizza
53 locations throughout California
www.zpizza.com

The skinny: Started in Laguna Beach in 1986 with the goal to create a pizza that was lighter, healthier and still delicious and creative. Crust offered in regular organic, wheat and gluten free (where available). Dough made from 100% certified organic wheat. Select ingredients such as Wisconsin skim mozzarella, 100% certified organic tomato sauce, MSG free pepperoni, additive free sausage and vegan cheese.

Pizzeria Mozza
641 N. Highland Ave.
Los Angeles
(323) 297-0101
www.mozza-la.com

The skinny: One of the toughest reservations in town since its opening in 2006, this eatery, a creation of Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich, offers gourmet pizza ranging from $10-$18. Thankfully it’s no longer a must to call a month in advance for a table since Mozza 2 Go, a takeout and delivery service featuring pizzas and other Mozza favorites, opened next door.

Spago
176 N. Canon Drive
Beverly Hills
(310) 385-0880
www.wolfgangpuck.com

The skinny: Wolfgang Puck invented designer pizza at his previous location in WeHo but this Beverly Hills hot spot continues to offer pizza during lunch only. The smoked salmon pizza (a.k.a. the Jewish pizza) is still popular and instead of gummy cream cheese, it's spread with a dill crème fraîche and topped with house-smoked salmon.

Gjelina
1429 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Venice, CA
310-450-1429
www.gjelina.com

The skinny: Pizza isn’t the main thing on this menu but it is popular thanks to its very thin, very crisp crust and wonderful toppings that shift with the seasons. Be prepared to wait since the wood-burning oven, leftover from the previous restaurant, only holds a max of four pies. Warning: no signage outside but you’ll know it by the crowd inside.
