Where bikini cooking all began… Southern-born Susan Irby learned from the best, her MOM! “My mom was, and still is, a great cook. My love for cooking came from her. Plus at the age of 2, my grandfather took me into restaurant kitchens to meet the chefs!” says Susan, The Bikini Chef(TM), “It’s no wonder I love everything food!” “As the bikini cooking story goes, my family water skied on Lake Martin, Alabama from dawn til dusk. We’d be starving and end up cooking in our bathing suits. Bikini cooking was born!” After sampling foods from her books on tours around the country, fans asked Susan how she stayed in such great shape.
“My shift from cooking comfort foods turned toward creating comfort good with a healthy, delicious twist. I was cooking “bikini” before healthy was hip. Fans requested I teach them how to prepare everyday foods that would help them look and feel amazing. And once students heard my story of cooking on the lake in my bikini, they automatically called me The Bikini ChefTM! The name stuck and fits the essence of my trademark cuisine which uses fresh herbs, spices, and citrus flavors to enhance leaner, lighter, delicious foods,” says Susan, The Bikini Chef(TM).
Restaurant trained in Europe with Italian Chef Francesco Berardinelli and French Master Chef Marc Meneau, The Bikini ChefTM has shared the culinary stage with Master Chef George McNeill, Ming Tsai, Todd English, and Rocco Dispirito.
Susan stays active by running, swimming, and doing strength and core workouts at home. She ran her first ½-Marathon in 2012 and will run a full marathon May 2013 and again in September 2013 in Kauai.
